Aeration & Dethatching in Spokane, WA

Of everything we do, this is arguably the single most important service for a Spokane lawn specifically. Our soil doesn’t cooperate the way soil does in a lot of other markets — compacted and basalt-derived, it drains poorly through spring and bakes hard by July, which quietly chokes root growth and blocks water from ever reaching where it’s actually needed. Aeration and dethatching go straight at that problem.

What’s Involved

Core aeration pulls small plugs of soil out of the lawn, relieving compaction so water, air, and nutrients can actually reach the roots instead of pooling or running off the surface. Dethatching handles the layer of dead grass and organic debris that builds up over time and blocks nutrients from ever reaching the soil beneath it. Both are timed for spring, ahead of peak heat, so the roots have real time to recover and strengthen before summer stress sets in.

Why This Matters More Here Than Most Places

Spokane’s soil isn’t uniform — it shifts from sand to gravelly loam to clay to muck within the same neighborhood, sometimes within the same yard. But compaction and low organic matter show up almost everywhere, regardless of which soil type you’ve got. Lawns that skip regular aeration tend to thin out and lose drought tolerance even when they’re being watered correctly, simply because the water never makes it down to where the roots actually are.
