Spokane Watering Restrictions Guide (2026)
Washington is currently under a statewide drought emergency, declared April 8, 2026. Here’s exactly what that means for lawn watering in Spokane.
Level 1 Restrictions
Standard summer rules, in effect June 1–October 1
- No watering 10am–6pm
- Limited to 4 days a week or fewer
- No watering within 48 hrs of rainfall
- No runoff onto sidewalks, streets, gutters
- No hosing down driveways or hardscape
Level 2 Restrictions
Drought emergency rules, activated when the Spokane River falls below 1,000 CFS
- Watering limited to 2 days/week
- 2 hours max per day
- No washing hard surfaces with water
Exemptions
Trees, newly planted landscapes, vegetable gardens, and wildfire mitigation efforts are typically exempt from full restrictions.
Enforcement
As of 2026, the City of Spokane is enforcing these rules on an honor system rather than issuing fines for most violations.
Your Lawn Won’t Die From Following These Rules
Spokane’s dominant grass, Kentucky Bluegrass, naturally goes dormant (not dead) above 85°F. A brown lawn during restricted watering is normal and, under RCW 64.38.055, legally protected from HOA fines during a declared drought.
